Artist Statement
I have always loved making things with my hands and have been an artist almost all of my life. I have painted, collaged, woven, assembled, sewn, quilted and embellished. My inspiration comes from the shapes, patterns and colors that have filled my life. During my years as a Computer Software Analyst I often searched for patterns in order to solve problems and I still do today.
Sometimes I start with a vision in my mind and then search for the materials and techniques to make that vision come to life. Other times, I start with a blank canvas, a pile of materials and a vague idea. Either way, the joy in my work comes from finding solutions that meet the needs for a particular project.
Currently, I am working on transformations, of color, shape, texture and composition. I have started to dye and paint my own fabric. I have further embellished those fabrics with various surface design techniques and that has given me a rich source of materials for my art.
